michael--

it wont be AWRE...thats even more of a dream than WSTL winning back the JPC<G>.

i am very worried about that. if BEL announces someone other than WSTL for the DMT, kiss WSTL good bye. one thing though...about g.lite and pair...no one wants it. no one cares what PAIR has, and no one cares what AWRE has. by the time they do, HOPEFULLY TXN will finally have the c6 ready with a g.lite implementation.

good luck to all,
trey

Unfortunately they did not keep up with the times and everyone and their grandmother is getting in on ADSL....Even worse their still stuck on CAP.....no glite or DMT yet? What are they doing! Why would anyone commit to deploying their stuff when it won't even be compatible with the agreed standards.

Mike, I just couldn't let this inaccuracy remain. I personally went to Westell and have reported on this thread two DMT implementations that I had demonstrated to me at Westell. One was with TI/Amati chips which is a full 8 mbits/sec. and another which is with ADI chips. Westell does have g.lite implementations as well as CAP. They test out each DMT chip they can get their hands on and will go with whatever provides the best performance for the task. They are selling CAP to Bell Atlantic because that is Bell Atlantic's decision for this year. When Bell goes with DMT, Westell is well positioned with its special arrangement with TI to provide it on a cost effective basis since they get special pricing as well as first availability. I assume they will get at least some of BA's business. You obviously don't think so, and I wonder on what you base your opinion. Westell has delivered timely and effectively. It could be a takeover target, however, because it clearly can't compete with the likes of Cisco that has 65% margins and can sell at a loss to capture the market. Mark Zionts said they consider Ericsson, Cisco, and Alcatel serious competitors.

As far as modems for the computers, they showed me how they had designed ones that allowed multiple computer households to use one line and have each computer view separate websites.

You may be discouraged, as many of us are, but I believe that is based on stock price, not what the company is doing. My opinion of the management is quite high and not what constantly permeates this thread. It is true that we are being kept in the dark, and even DR.TECH now seems to be speaking in code, (what is this 2 day board meeting all about?) but ADSL is getting hot. I actually hear it talked about on TV now and I think you may soon look back and wonder why you hadn't bought more when it was sooooooo cheap for sooooooooo long.

All the best,
Michael

Just to briefly add to Mike D's excellent response......check out the Supercomm 97 lineup at:
americasnetwork.com

At that time Westell was the only vendor displaying both CAP & DMT AND splitter & splitterless solutions. Cisco, then had only CAP! Over a year ago WSTL was absolutely sold on DMT. They tried to buy it's creator!! So, don't be surprised if WSTL has a little DMT solution provided by TI as well as it's multi-faceted D-SLAM. Of course, as before, time is the mystery. I have learned this much from following tech stocks: When a company says next 'year'---they mean next 'December'!! sg
