Alan,

I am greatly distressed by it, as you would suspect. As you said, "The focus on negative and destruction is the problem with the celebration of this day IMO." I completely agree. In fact, that statement describes exactly what I feel is the only thing wrong with anything, what we choose to see in it. Some would see darkness in the Sun, or the Son.

Nancy,

Anyone that kills his 14 year old girlfriend is sick:Halloween has nothing to do with it.

Anyone that kills a dog is twisted. I don't mind about the cats.

When I was putting the face puddy and scars on Peter, my 9 year-old son's face last Saturday, he was a real ugly monster. He had no problem being an alter boy the next day. Peter has a terrible temper and if he were to grow up unbridled - he may defintely hurt someone. If I do my job as a parent, his anger and passion can be re-directed into manifestations of competition and perfection: not violence. So am I doing something wrong for creating a fictitious character/monster for him to role-model once a year??? I don't think so. It's fun. He looked scary. Boo.

Have you ever seen the movie Carrie?

Maybe next Halloween you and Alan can watch it togethor. I guarantee you will find it entertaining.
