cb, you mean that $4k i'm sending in for property tax is real? ugggggh. and i don't have kids. yet, anyway. but, you are correct that everyone benefits from public education.

you can afford to be generous to the middle class and the financially elite. this isn't about helping poor people.

if enrollments at private schools go up 1000% - a real low number, if, in fact, the voucher pays for the entire tuition, how do expect the private schools, who would be hard pressed to increase enrollments 20% (many turn kids down today), would discriminate? financially of course.

tuition goes up. the middle class and the rich get a subsidy for private school and lower income people are left with the remains of a tattered system.

the fact is that many private school teachers essentially donate their time. when you need 10x as many teachers then fewer will want to donate their time for a good cause. prices will go up. the poor will be excluded. basic economics.

that is reality. not marketing. not just looking at the positive side. not hope. not wishful thinking. let's call it what it is. let's be honest. this is a marginal tax reduction for those more well off financially. the poor will bear the brunt of this expense.

i would definitely support getting some private school administrators and teachers in the public schools. the current system needs radical change. the smart people who could pull it off would rather have vouchers and leave. all the rest apparently don't have the wherewithall to get it done.

don't step on the downtrodden to elevate your own self interests. imho, there are better ways to achieve the same goals.
