According to my calculation, if you had $ 1 million in your account in cash, you should have no problem in selling 500 contracts of DELL naked puts with stricking price at $55.

The best way to make $$ on DELL in selling naked puts is to sell in the money leap puts whenever DELL pulls back 20-25% from its all time high (sure the more the better), you would be amazed by the amount of $$ you are able to cash in during a short period of time. Heck, I still have 25 contracts of DELL Jan. 40 puts that I sold at around 5 1/2. You can buy them back at 1 1/8 today. Sure you can let them expire worthless, if you want.

good luck,
larry!

So how much margin buying power would I need to have to write one contract for say Dell Put strike 55?

1 contract (100 shares) X 55 = 5500 X 25% = 1,375 plus commission

Since Dell is @ 65 and you are writing a 55 you can deduct the "out of the money" amount. However, there is a minimum percentage of the stock required. These percentages vary from broker to broker, so you need to ask.

Premiums must be left in your account. You can get the put premiums here
