Steve, correct me if my memory is wrong, but in the reports prior to privatization, Embratel was seen as a sell-off, because cellular was Brazil's future. Then mci-wcom bought and we have had to reconsider because if wcom is involved, then past immediately becomes future.
In that light, I must think that retaining the symbol tbr by wcom's brazilian franchise is a real long term plus. I am aware that this changes no fundamentals, but in a world mkt where perception has decidedly intrinsic value, I would proffer that Embratel may be a real sleeper for the long term investor. A former poster offered in an email to me of taking tbr shares ( or their successors) and setting them aside for the long haul. However, more and more, at these recent prices, this prospect becomes meritorious. Just another .02 worth, fwiw. Best, stx
