Any comments on the article that appeared in today's Globe & Mail? It sure didn't sound very positive. The Gartner Group is preparing a report that claims the partnership with 3Com is coming apart. Analysts and fund managers didn't sound very optimistic about this turn of events.

ZO,

I listened to CSCO's cc as well. What was said was that new green-field builds are going IP only (IP over sonet or IP over DWDM). This gives CSCO a huge competitive edge, since they own well over 85% share of core back-bone routing.

Traditional carriers are looking at ATM/IP combos due to installed TDM based ifrastructure. CSCO indicated that they will recognize revenue from their new IP/ATM swith(MGX8800) this quarter. The numbers at the end of CSCO's 2nd quarter will indicate whether or not this product will be accepted by traditional carriers.

The challenge faced by NN and ASND is that CSCO appears to finally have a credible ATM story. They are "bundling" ATM with their layer 3 strength. CSCO indicated they are working on 5 large opportunities, each being "significant". If NN can win just one of those, they're in good shape.

Should be a fun year end for all.
