Videos Now Site Launches Simultaneously on the Web
DULLES, Va. and PARK CITY, Utah, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- America Online, the world's leader in branded interactive services, and Digital Courier Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: DCTI - news) Thursday announced the launch of Videos Now's video superstore on America Online; AOL.COM, AOL's Website and the most visited consumer Website in cyberspace; and AOL's Digital City, the most popular local city resource in cyberspace.

Videos Now's prominent positioning on these key AOL brands is the result of a three-year agreement valued in excess of $18 million that was announced by the two companies in June.

Videos Now is the ultimate online movie shopping experience for movie buffs, collectors and education-oriented consumers, offering more than 100,000 Video, Laser Disc, and DVD titles -- 10 times the selection of the average offline video store -- at everyday savings of up to 30% off of traditional video stores.

Videos Now will also offer AOL members and Web-based visitors to AOL.COM and Digital City a variety of special promotions, including discounts on the 100 best selling Videos Now products.

As the one-stop video shopping destination for the whole family, Videos Now offers new releases, classics, children's fun and educational videos, health and fitness and dozens of other categories. Movie formats available include VHS, DVD, and Laser Disc.

On the AOL service, members can find Videos Now within the Videos area of AOL's Entertainment Channel and the Electronics and Video area of the Shopping Channel.

Videos Now can also be accessed at AOL Keywords: Videos Now or VN. On AOL.COM, Videos Now will have a presence in the Entertainment, Education, Health and Sports Web Channels; and is available in the Movies and Event Guides on Digital City sites.

On top of its wide selection of products, Videos Now provides online shoppers and browsers with a lineup of in-depth personalized movie information, news and gossip and movie reviews not available anywhere else in cyberspace.

Through its powerful movie recommendation tool, Videos Now can also offer users a resource that recommends movies specifically for them based on some simple information entered by the user such as their movie favorites, favorite actors and other criteria.

Barry Schuler, President of AOL Interactive Services said, ''One of our core principles at AOL is to constantly strive to offer our members and Web- based users easier, more convenient ways to handle the everyday activities that are important to them. Because consumers have less and less free time, there is a growing need for products and services that make their lives easier. ''With the consumer market for videos growing steadily, we're confident that the outstanding variety and convenience of Videos Now will provide a real benefit to our members.''

''More than ever, consumers are demanding quality, convenience, selection and value, and with the launch of Videos Now, AOL members and Web-based consumers know where to go to get all of those benefits in one place,'' said R.J. Pittman, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Courier Technologies. ''We know that we have the best selection in the video industry, and with our presence on AOL's leading online brands, we also know that we are well- positioned to bring our services to cyberspace's only mass market consumer audience. Location is everything in the world of commerce, and our agreement with AOL gives us prime real estate.''

''Videos represent a booming market in the U.S., with over half of all North American households maintaining a library of videos,'' said Mitchell Edwards, Chief Financial Officer of Digital Courier Technologies. ''Over 5% of American consumers, or 2.3 million adults purchased videos on the Internet in 1997. Our agreement with AOL and our easy-to-use and comprehensive online video store put us in a great position to capitalize on the more then $16 billion per year market.''

Videos Now's Website, videosnow.com, launched simultaneously with its presence on America Online, offering Web users a one-stop destination for an outstanding video shopping and browsing experience.
