Hey Mohan, Although I continue to hear Dell is totally focused on the markets that brought them to the dance. On the other hand I know what I would be doing (and I'm no Michael Dell,)I'd be planning and laying the groundwork for the next market I want to invade. The Internet could very well be their next target. Like the article says
only 27% of the U.S. adults are using the Internet (then we have to think about the rest of the world ;-)

this article doesn't well support the internet appliance theory. fact is that if you use your telephone through the net, you need a beefed up system/pc; an internet appliance won't work. if you record video through the net you need a beefed up system/pc; an appliance won't work here either. too many quarks to work out before an appliance becomes feasible. in the meantime pcs are the only method to access lower telephone bills/recorded video applications/lower mail costs. companies have reduced mailing costs substantially with the net. next: the telephone. cost savings of beefy systems have been outweighing need in waiting for internet appliance to appear.

the net appliance will not adequately address the need for increased storage demands going forward (other than through the net itself, which is nebulous at best for personal needs). MD obviously considered this when he decided to move into storage technology. the need for increased storage capacity will become as important as the medium used for storage
