I haven't moved up to Level II quotes, but am getting ready to try a free trial I heard about for Level II. I've had some bad experiences with internet trading, none of the services are perfect, all have weaknesses. I'll tell you how I operate in general. I use 3 free real time quote services. I have 6 browsers running at once, usually. I consider myself a "Specialist" in a few stocks. Learning the trading patterns of one or two stocks, and who trades them can pay off bigtime. Especially with stocks that trade below 100K shares a day.
I have been the biggest Bull on NTBK, but it's overbought now, and will likely drop sharply at the open tomorrow. It seems to be following it's usual trading pattern. Every time it spikes sharply on large volume, either up or down, it reverses and drifts in the opposite direction. It went down at the close today, like I figured.
It will most likely be hit with a sharp wave of selling at the open, then bounce back a little. Just my opinion...we shall see...

Datek is fine if you like good service and is overall slick for a super-discounter...but, they don't do bulletin board/pink sheet stocks. SureTrade is good at being sloppy, giving great margin rates, but poor to zero customer service, and seems to do the worst possible job just to be as evil as possible. They will do just about any kind of trade. If you're looking for a brokerage that might make a mistake, like crediting your account for a million dollar trade, then this is the brokerage for you. If you do penny stocks and use margin for listed stocks, SureTrade is best, for other stocks, regular NAZ, etc. Datek is best. The others like E-Trade, E-Schwab, etc. are slightly better but charge more, so they are disqualified if you trade daily.
