VeriFone Awarded Seven Year Contract to Install and Service up to 50,000 of its Point of Sale Terminals SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1998-- In one of the largest rollouts of point of sale (POS) equipment accepting electronic benefits transfer (EBT) payment, VeriFone, Inc. and Lockheed Martin IMS have announced the signing of a seven year service contract whereby VeriFone will install and maintain up to 50,000 of their POS systems in 15 states. The deployment will not only help merchants today, but also prepare them for the next wave of electronic benefits requirements. The contract also further extends VeriFone's leadership position beyond technology to include providing on-site installation and maintenance services. As the dominant platform for EBT, approximately 100,000 VeriFone point of sale solutions have been deployed nationwide specifically to help merchants accept EBT payment.
