don't think this has been posted: RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., 1998 NOV 3 (Newsbytes) -- By Sami Menefee, Newsbytes. Viking Components is shipping 32-megabyte (MB) and 64MB synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) for use in supercharging Sony's Vaio 505 MicroNotebook PCs. A mini-notebook user can add Viking's 32MB module to give the mini-notebook 64MB of memory, or 96MB of memory is available to Vaio users with Viking's 64MB module. The Vaio notebook series comes with an Intel Pentium 266 megahertz (MHz) processor with MMX technology, running Windows 98 with 2MB of video RAM. The memory modules for the small form factor Vaio systems are available from the firm's authorized resellers and distributors, Lance Allega, Viking spokesperson, told Newsbytes. For specific prices, contact the local Viking distributor, he added.Allega also asked Newsbytes to clarify an earlier report, published Oct. 5, 1998, that Viking was already shipping 512MB Rambus memory modules. The firm actually started shipping 512MB PC-100 memory modules for high-end workstations and servers at that time. The 512MB PC-100 module is part of Viking's T3 registered PC-100 family of dual inline memory modules (DIMM), that fits 512MB into a single expansion slot. Viking will incorporate Direct Rambus dynamic random access memory (DRRAM) technology into its new line of RIMM (Rambus inline memory module) products early next year. "We will be showing engineering and displays samples of the RIMM modules in 64MB and 128MB sizes at Comdex," Allega told Newsbytes. He added the firm expects to ship production samples early next year. Viking also manufactures a line of internal, external, and PC Card modems, as well as memory and adapters for CompactFlash SmartMedia and PC Card-compatible products. Viking is on the World Wide Web at vikingcomponents.com . Reported by Newsbytes News Network, newsbytes.com .
