SAP Problems at Tellabs

fool.com

This article at The Motley Fool is about Tellabs, but scroll down a bit, until you find:

Okay, back to the issue at hand. I learned that there were three primary reasons for the slowdown in the collection of accounts receivable. The first relates to the significant problems Tellabs has had since it converted its accounting systems to SAP AG's (NYSE:SAP) software in October 1997.

But the thing about companies like SAP is that you can't just dump them, because you've got too much invested in them. Which leads to TLAB to conclude "...It is hoped that this problem will be alleviated when SAP comes out with its next software upgrade -- it's due in another three to six months. "

So TLAB eagerly writes another check to SAP for new software which will hopefully fix the problem.

Now, owning both a bit of TLAB and a bit of SAP, I definitely have mixed emotions about the above, but it is an excellent example of the power any ERP vendor has over their customers...
