Lungren got walloped because of what Pete Wilson did -- come up with the idea of Prop. 187 in 1994. If you recall, Wilson was behind Kathleen Brown in the opinion polls, when he conjured up Prop. 187 to divide the electorate and polarize them along racial lines. Well, guess what -- after 1994, a lot of Mexican immigrants thought it is better to opt for US citizenship. And this year, a lot of them voted and when they did, they made the connection between Wilson and Lungren, and that was the end of Lungren! Btw, notice that nobody talks about Pete Wilson these days? A former GOP Presidential prospect, he has now been reduced to YAOCOS (Yet Another Ordinary Citizen Of Sacramento) :-) Dipy.
