It's hard for me to believe that the USG would approve an ALA buyout of Loral that included SS/L, based on tech transfer issues.

On the other hand, doesn't ALA already have an equity stake (one of the preferred stock series, I believe) in LOR that was acquired in return for the 12.5% stake of SS/L it previously owned. In fact it may have more than that since ALA merged with Aerospatiale, which had it's own 12.5% share of SS/L.

Anyway, as minority shareholders, like LMT, they're presumably kept well isolated from the technology stuff. If they were to acquire SS/L it's easy to imagine the "sucking sound" of SS/Ls technology flowing to France.
