Hummingbird announces implementation of business intelligence solution using Microsoft SQL 7.0 ''Plato'' at Nationwide Hummingbird BI/Suite Maximizes Nationwide's Business Opportunities Through Better Data Analysis and Reporting TORONTO, Nov. 9 /CNW/ - Hummingbird Communications Ltd. (TSE: ''HUM'' and NASDAQ: ''HUMCF'') announces that the world's number one building society, Nationwide, is implementing Hummingbird BI/Suite, a comprehensive business intelligence solution that minimizes bad debts and maximizes new business opportunities through fast and in-depth risk analysis. Hummingbird BI/Suite runs on the Microsoft SQL Server, Enterprise Edition version 7.0 - the 'Plato' environment - and enables Nationwide to drill down into large amounts of information and to assess customer credit ratings within minutes. Roger Williams, Head of Consumer Risk Management at Nationwide, said: ''Using a combination of Hummingbird products and SQL Server 7.0, real value can now be gained from the data within the data warehouse. This is achieved by querying information in the data warehouse using BI/Query, and by using OLAP technology (BI/Analyze) to analyze information from the 'Plato'(DSS) multi-dimensional database.'' He continued, ''A clear benefit is that analysts' time is more effectively used analyzing the data rather than searching for information,'' said Williams. With the new business intelligence solution in place, Nationwide can now store all the data from the Consumer Risk Management department in one central data store, SQL Server 7.0. This enables the building society to quickly and easily analyze and report on the risks involved in providing mortgages, credit cards and loans to its customers. This is done using BI/Query, Hummingbird's enterprise and query reporting application, and BI/Analyze, the leading enterprise query, reporting and online analytical processing (OLAP) solution (part of the BI/Suite family). As a result, Nationwide can make more informed decisions and ultimately provide a more effective service for its customers. Hossam Abou Zeid, Hummingbird Vice President Sales & Marketing, Europe, said, ''The combination of Hummingbird business intelligence software and Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 is a natural choice, providing the most advanced solution for our customers. Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 provides the powerful platform that businesses need for implementing business tools like Hummingbird BI/Suite. Nationwide needed increased scalability, an overall reduction in the total cost of ownership and faster and better decision making through the data warehouse. We are pleased to add Nationwide to our growing BI customer roster.'' Commenting on the project with Hummingbird, Karen Green, senior product manager at Microsoft Ltd., said: ''Hummingbird is an important partner for Microsoft, helping to create true business value for customers with their SQL Server 7.0-based solutions. Our design goals for SQL Server 7.0 were focused around scalability, ease of use and new business intelligence features, and we're glad to see that the successful delivery of these goals have enabled Hummingbird in turn to implement such a winning solution for Nationwide.''
