Steve, but really to E...

If this ain't a direct quote from the buddha, I don't know what is:

"I don't really feel any impulse to express empathy with your struggle, as I'd guess you're handling it as well as anybody could. I hope I do as well with my own."

Our is's is what they is. g

ps: This also applies to Christine's boobers, as horrible as that may seem. It's all a garden of roses - some different from others. g

Thank you for that post, Steven.

Yes, my husband reacted much as you described when you wrote "What drives me truly mad, though, is when people respond to afflictions - usually those of others - by announcing that it is God's will, or that God is testing us, or that the experience will make us stronger."

I have thought a lot, obviously, about the meaning of the great human effort, now mostly performed by others, required to maintain my daughter and other profoundly retarded individuals in their lives. I can't answer it philosophically, but I can say this simple thing: I prefer to live in a society in which the strong take care of the weak. I wish the practice was more widespread, and crossed national boundaries.

Steve,

<<What drives me truly mad, though, is when people respond to afflictions - usually those
of others - by announcing that it is God's will, or that God is testing us, or that the
experience will make us stronger. Taking this trend to the outer limits is the recently
fashionable and sublimely idiotic injunction to "feel the pain", As if we don't.>>

The problem with so many people is they were stupid (handicapped) before they were born again and still are afterwards. They do not understand God yet insist on speaking for Him. They should first take about 20 years and try to understand the character of God. Would a God who said "I desire compassion and not sacrifice" do that to anybody? No He wouldn't. For whatever reason or many reasons things are breaking down and not working right. Genes, chromosomes, DNA. That's very touchy stuff.

cya,

Bob

I don't know, man,
It's a journey,
It's a road,
you will know when you walk the road,
you will not want to walk any other road,
you will be proud that you walked the road,
you will recognize and draw strength from
others who walk the road.
they are walking their own road,
but it gives you strength to walk yours.
someday you will understand,
someday important things will not be as important.
someday you will understand.
