There has always been a distinction between the art/illustration/photo market and the business diagramming/flowcharting market. The best way to explain this is that the first is for flashy consumer-oriented materials whereas the second is for actually running the business. Visio is not in the first biz, it is in the second. What's more, Visio has taken its software beyond even just the diagramming/flowcharting market...the Visio diagrams have actually gone "live" with underlying object technology. And, Visio software can be used to actually design, which is not the purpose of the Adobe or Microsoft software.

Adobe is the leader in the art/illustration/photo area. I looked at the features of the Adobe products...the new MS PhotoDraw 2000 appears squarely targeted at Adobe and even shares the "Photo" name. Adobe might be concerned about this but I'm not sure the Microsoft product will win customers away from Adobe...Microsoft products are usually bad in the first few versions.

And I do think someone on Wall Street has been running around saying Microsoft's PhotoDraw 2000 somehow threatens Visio. There just isn't a product overlap. But Microsoft's PhotoDraw 2000 does overlap with Adobe's products.

So, with all this confusion...I think it is time to explain Visio's products in greater detail. Don't you? (SEE NEXT MESSAGE)--->

Folks, the new Visio Enterprise 5.0 Sells for around $1000.00; the previous products were around $250.00-300.00. This means a big jump in ASP; why, even the upgrade is around $650.00.

This quarter could turn out better than most think.
