I see "potong air" diplomacy along the causeway is alive and well <vbg>

From this week's edition of Asiaweeek:

"HERE IS ONE SIGN of the times. Earlier this year, a local newspaper announced a coming attraction at the
Singapore Zoo: aerobics sessions with Ah Meng, the facility's star orangutan. Electrified tour operators and travel
agents flooded the zoo's switchboard. Business was slow and they thought foreign visitors would be blown away by
a leotard-clad grindin' and bumpin' primate. Except that it was an April Fool's prank - the zoo had reluctantly given
permission for the jokey press release. All good for a laugh, but given the response, some zoo officials wondered
whether they should seriously consider the idea."

So I see it has progressed way beyond just "breakfast with Ah Meng".

Suggestion for the Singapore Zoo:
"For New Year's day, hear Ah Meng's views on how Asia can recover from the economics crisis. Ah Meng will be ably supported by a distinguished International panel including Krugman and Sachs <VBG>"

Stitch,

I can see why Mahathir was reluctant to allow outside observers at the trial:

How does the local press handle a story like this?
