I don't disagree with most of what you say. However, the Dems have to acknowledge their own part in the "attack dog agenda", re >"They saw themselves as voting against the RR inspired impeachment attack dog agenda of the Republicans..."

We had a female Congresswoman from California "privately" having a temper tantrum to a roundtable of Congressmen and women. I believe that was Diane Feinstein, if I remember the news report correctly. I also recall a female Congresswoman publicly saying Clinton was guilty of "one count of extreme recklessness, and several counts of stupidity". Those are strong words to say publicly of one's President, when he is the leader of your own party.

And who went to the Senate floor to publicly excorciate Clinton? Senior Democrate Lieberman. And a fellow Dem rushed to the floor in support. Could these very unusual things all together have helped push the mass of Dems to vote for Impeachment? I think so. It wasn't simply "rabid RR", though I'm sure that Dems would like to think so.

It's also because much of the public have formed uninformed opinions on the topic. Most people still don't know the difference between an impeachment inquiry and an impeachment hearing. Most people still don't know the distinction between the impeachment process and the end act of impeaching the president from office. Most of the discussions in the media and on forums don't make these distinctions.

OT dougjn,

Lastly, Consolidated Cigar Holdings got smoked, declining $1.69, or 14 percent, to $10.81 after the largest US maker of premium stogies reported third-quarter net income of 28 cents a diluted share, way below the Street's anticipated 45 cents.

On the other hand, this column somehow has resisted making a Monica Lewinsky joke. We hope that helps.

Looks like the slowing economy took the wind out of anticipated cigar sales. Well, the jury is still out on the size of the Starr Report baby boom in certain parts of the country. <g>

Regards,
Greg B.
