Dave, The one's that do go to jail? I worked 10 years in equity research for top ten brokerage firms, the last five as a private investor. In both cases in life sciences. Every company we reviewed included an assesment of ceo public relations and maketing ability besides scientific knowledge. We gave a weighting to each skill, Pr and maketing skills do rank relatively high. Scientific knowledge of course ranks higher. CEO's have to get the message across, in my opinion after seeing him (Crooke) 3 times representing ISIS, I was dissapointed. I rank him low. That's my opinion. Scientific know how and vision are very important Crooke does well there.CEO's weak in public speaking skills are rampant across the biotechnology field. I beleive there is a direct correlation between poor public relations from a ceo's office and stockholder satisfaction. They should do their administrative , r/d work etc. and use Public Relations companies and other senior manaagement, coo, president, chairmain whoever has these skills to represent the company on public presetations. The biotech field does attract marketing types, these are the ones who put the team together, get financing, and startup. They ensure a six figure income but the real money is the stock options which payout 10 times the salary and if in five years doesn't work out you go to your next startup etc.. A good example of a ceo with great public speaking and relations in addition to science is Peter Johnson at Agouron Pharma if you get a chance to hear see or meet him you would understand where I'm coming from. He has all of the above plus a great deal maker and negotiator. That's whats great about this forum, we both get an opportunity to express our opinions and each get something from it. Thanks for writing John L. R.
