STOCKHOLM, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Swedish telecoms equipment
maker Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson is not
concerned by a move by Microsoft Corp. and Qualcomm
into mobile telephones, a senior company official saidon Thursday.
"We don't see anything new or exceptional in this

Mobile Telephones, told Reuters.
"We are not surprised, there has long been a trend towards
developing wireless data communication," he said. "For this to
work it needs suitable software with good applications. Am I a smart guy or what?"
Ericsson is prepared for hard competition in this area,Ahrenbring said.
Microsoft and Qualcomm will unveil wireless communications
a joint venture next Tuesday.
Ericsson, its U.S and Finnish rivals Motorola Inc.
and Nokia and Britain's Psion have already
formed a called Symbian to develop Psion's Epoc operating
system as an open standard for wireless data communicationterminals.
Analysts expect the Microsoft-Qualcomm venture to develop
advanced mobile telephones using Microsoft's Windows CEoperating system.

Sorry for the little edits, but I couldn't resist. If ericy doesn't con the Q into giving it a license before February, they'll be toasted by nokia and lu. Ericy's ego is cutting itself right out a marjor growing market. I'd sell and buy nokia and qcom if I were you.

Not worried about microsoft and qcom?, oh I don't think so... Liars is shitting herrings!

Ericsson signs D-AMPS IS-136 contract in Brazil

Ericsson has signed a contract with MAXITEL of Brazil for the turn-key construction of a D-AMPS IS-136 (TDMA) digital wireless network covering the State of Minas Gerais. The contract is valued at USD 150 million (SEK 1,170 million) over a two year period. MAXITEL plans to begin commercial service in December 1998.

Ericsson now has a market share of more than 50% of the new wireless operators' B-Band market in Brazil. This contract with MAXITEL covers Area 4 of the B-Band license areas. Nine of the B-Band areas that have awarded contracts have selected D-AMPS IS-136 (TDMA) technology to provide the latest digital services available.

MAXITEL is a consortium formed by Telecom Italia Mobile from Italy, Globopar, Bradesco and Vicunha from Brazil.

There are nearly 90 million subscribers using D-AMPS/AMPS networks worldwide. D-AMPS was the first technology to be commercially available as a dual-band (800/1900 MHz) and dual-mode (analog/digital) technology. Nearly 16 million subscribers are already using D-AMPS digital services.

Ericsson's Phone Doubler service implemented in Sweden for the first time

Ericsson has signed the first IP-telephony contract with a Swedish telecommunications operator, Tele2. The Ericsson Phone Doubler service is called 'Dubbellinjen' (Double Line) at Tele2's IP Telephony company Call2Web. Tele2's more than 300,000 subscribers have been able to buy the new service since the beginning of October.

The new service enables subscribers to receive a phone call and surf the Internet simultaneously. Furthermore, Tele2 subscribers are able to make carrier class phone calls over the IP network at an exceptionally low cost.

"Our leading edge IP-telephony products are examples of Ericsson's capability to master the now emerging convergence of the tele and data technologies," says Ingemar Nilsson, President of Ericsson Sverige AB.

'Dubbellinjen' solves the problem of blocked telephone lines due to increased Internet usage. This IP service is easy to install and all that is required is a modem, a sound card, and loudspeakers. While connected to the Internet a message on the screen indicates that a phone call is being received and identifies the caller. The subscriber has the possibility to answer the phone call through the PC. Since its launch, at the end of September, 'Dubbellinjen' has proved to be a popular service with Tele2 subscribers.

"This IP-product is the best in its kind for Phone-to PC services on the market today. Ericsson's focus on Internet telephony is also very promising for the future," says Henrik Ringmar, Vice President NetCom Systems.

Phone Doubler is based on the latest Ericsson integrated Internet telephony system. Its open platform will allow the operator to offer subscribers even more IP-telephony services in the future. These might include communication fax to fax , phone to phone as well as visual transmission.

"We are proud that Tele2 has chosen Ericsson. They support our strategy of first building a robust product for regular IP telephony in order to enhance it with value-added services, like Phone Doubler," says Staffan Lindholm, Manager for Internet Group at Ericsson Datanetworks and IP-services (DNIP).

NetCom is a leading telecommunications company in Scandinavia. The company was formed in 1993. In the areas of public telecommunications, data communication services and Internet NetCom operates Tele2 in Sweden, Tele2 A/S in Denmark and Tele2 Norge AS in Norway.
