a.paisley:
welcome.
I own( a little bit of) many gold miners, seems each month or two, one of the blue chip miners has a very good to outstanding run, and one can not figure which will enjoy the run during that zoom time. Looks like this month is going to the guys at ABX, while last month it was
most of the majors, with GGO being the winner(no, that is one of the two I don't hold). As to AU this time? don't know, not off to a great start, but as it is a great producer, and they do mine it cheaply, I find it always a good bet. Me, I'm in for the long ride. great company, very good names. cheap cost of production - this was a little more at risk(IMHO) when they held mostly mining in S.A. as if US$ weakened a lot vs Rand, their prior mining could have gotten more pricey, but now, - due to the last takeover - they get even better.
Heard rumor they may be looking into picking up a smaller producer in North America.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - Gavin Relly, a former chairman of South African mining and investment conglomerate Anglo American Corp., died Sunday of complications from heart surgery. He was 72.

Relly became chairman in 1983 and served until 1990. He also held positions on the boards of sister companies, De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd (Nasdaq:DBRSY - news). and Minorco SA (Nasdaq:MNRCY - news), and was chairman of Anglo American Industrial Corp.

He also worked in the coal mining, gold and steel areas.

Relly, who joined Anglo in 1949, was elected a board member in 1965 and moved to Lusaka to take over its operations in Zambia. He headed the group's North American interests from 1970 to 1973.
