I discovered this S&P report on AMES after the 15-minute edit window closed. 11/5/98 10:25 am... REITERATING ACCUMULATE AMES DEPT. STORES (AMES 20****) ON STRONG 23.6% RISE in OCTOBER COMP-STORE SALES... Strength of number partly reflects inclusion of Halloween week in '99 period, while traditionally strong week not included last year... Also, toy-sale circular began earlier, on 10/28 compared to 11/1 last year... Even so, sales growth continues to trend at higher rate than our model... Raising FY 99 (Jan.) estimate from $1.78 to $1.85, FY 00 from $1.97 to $2.03... AMES undervalued at 10 times FY 00 estimate. /M. Basham
