Just when you thought they couldn't go any lower...

Japan's Six-Month T-Bills
Have a Negative Yield
By GREGORY ZUCKERMAN and CHIKAKO MOGI
Staff Reporters of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

In a startling sign of the poor state of the Japanese banking system, the yield on Japan's six-month Treasury bills fell into negative territory for the first time ever.

The situation is a rare one in the global bond markets. Although interest rates in Japan have been razor thin for several years, the move to a negative interest rate marked a new low for the Japanese financial system. A similar negative yield for U.S. government securities was seen during the Depression, amid worries over the stability of the U.S. banking system.

G'day all - dear Sam, Mr Mohammed Said reminds me of Mr Elliot Abrahm, a deputy of the State Dept when Iran-Contra was the rage of the day. At one point, he replied to the congressional hearing that he was not allowed to tell the truth [or something like that.]

Anyway, my suspicion is that the position of power is inversely proportional to intelligence. Speaking of intelligence, I heard on the radio today that "having sex" can make people forgetting things - now, if our prez had had the study as his defense, we would not have had all those self righteous men of power to parade in front of our teevee night after night in the past year <vbg>.

So much for aimless musing <g>, back to Japan, oops, Japan Inc. just turned red:

Sam, this is known as the liar's paradox. Someone walks up to you and says, "I am lying". It is very similar to something we discussed earlier, namely Godel's theorem.
