1. ORCL typically does move in spiky fashion, but sometimes during a runup to the options, it makes big upward moves interspersed with little downward ones.
2. I don't believe in TA, but I do believe in mass psychology and animal instincts. TA is often useful in determining when a herd mentality is taking place. The concept of a "momentum" stock is bad over the long term...but all stocks are momentum stocks in short spurts. Problem is determining when. TA can determine that.
