What's a reasonable time to wait for your broker to find shares?

I tried to short GERN this morning at E*Trade in the upper 22's. After sitting with an open market short sell order for 15-20 minutes I cancelled it. If I hadn't I bet they'd be finding me all the shares I wanted now that it's 19-1/2.

Ben--I shorted HPRT yesterday.
Picked it up as a high flyer and researched. I was appalled, horrid financials, it has declining revenue and profits and very significantly so. I don't hold much faith in any buy out of such a company. I was off line and missed a chance to hit it harder. I think it is a good short but I have sure been wrong before.
