Glad you mentioned the temp files - those can become a big source of slow performance. I usually set the size of the temp files to a very small number (in IE4 this is done by going to view - internet options - general - then click the settings box on 'temporary internet files'. If one spends a lot of time on a single site (say the dell thread) it can slow down access since the indexing gets a lot of hits for the base address. The problem would then 'appear to go away' when looking at another site, or even when looking at the Dell thread on SI without logging in.
