Quincy,

Home builders out here are offering Ethernet wiring to all rooms as either standard or as a $200 option.

I love the idea of plug-n-play. But, anyone building an office without Cat-5 100BaseT compatible cable deserves to pay $300 per wireless port. Cat-5 wiring is a no-brainer.

I agree. There are so many places where wireless is far better, if not the only option. But in the office LAN environment, it is a distant second.

Joe

PS: Can Gigabit Ethernet run over Cat-5 wires?

In which case, I retire. 11Mbps was news to me.

Quincy, you obviously know you stuff if you implement LAN's and i can't argue against any of it. The standards and technology that Aironet can achieve far exceeds that of the systems I have seen available. What about HIPER/2 that should offer up to 25 Mbps, although this is still yet to be ratified?

The wireline vs wireless argument though will continue until, the proverbial "cows come home". The margins though between either concerning cost and performance will (?) get narrower - can we agree that, maybe I'm wrong. WLAN is a very, very weak subject of mine and therefore, concede on your evidence.

Thanks for an informative post. I learnt something today.
