No, Rocky, I think we are just talking orthogonally. "You are confusing sample rate with data rate with audio frequency... You can sample at ANY rate. But the lower the sample rate, the greater the distortion." Sure, you can sample at any rate, but if you sample below the Nyquist frequency, you have foldover, and loss of frequency data, as well as amplitude data. "It isn't possible to edit off of a CD Burner or DVD-RAM anyway. The read/write access times are too slow." This is what I was getting at. At the expense of showing my ignorance of details, something in the process (software, track recalibration, kinetics of phase-transformation of the media material, whatever) slows the recording below what is usable for direct audio applications.
