Prescriptions and worldwide sales of Lipitor vs Zocor:

Nationally, doctors wrote about 19.5 million prescriptions for Lipitor in the 12 months ended Sept. 30, compared to 15.8 million for Zocor, according to National Health Information Services in Phoenix.

In worldwide sales, Zocor has the lead, with $2.8 billion in sales for the first nine months of 1998, compared to $1.5 billion for Lipitor, according to the two companies.
