>>Alpha Five Version 4. [v. Microsoft Access] [this is big...]

I've evaluated both. I was even sent to formal traning for Access because we were highly considering a switch (due to the pervasiveness of the program and data compatibility with our clients). After being fully trained (from beginner to advanced), the instructor asked me what I had intended to use the knowledge for. I showed her the database I developed in A5, what it can do and how easily it can do it, e.g., action commands, a variety of button types (multi, radio, etc.). She marveled at the design and asked me, "Why switch at all when life is good with what you're already doing?" At that point I fought the company big shots to stay loyal to A5. Don't be deceived by the popularity of Access just because MS goes through more dollars advertising and bundling it in packages, like the Office Suite. As a matter of fact, I believe if it were sold as a stand alone only, it may not be as popular as it is. Our company also took serious evaluations on other like Paradox and Approach. These didn't even come close. One more thing, don't misconstrue the messages you see on this board as a gamut of problems with A5. This is a unique forum where Tech Support and neighborly tips and techniques can be shared from everybody to everybody. Challenges and problems are supposed to be posted here. I can tell you Access has no such kind of open discussion platform that I've found. Remember: "The wise man learns from his mistakes. The wiser one learns from other's mistakes!

A5V4 Headline:Network Optimization Worth the $$$

I have beta-tested A5V4 with the Network Optimization on a couple of my clients' networks and I want you all to know it works great. The performance improvement easily justifies the upgrade price for anyone running A5 on a network.

Another thing about Network Optimization is it's easy to manage and maintain. We Alpha users are accustomed to being able making frequent changes without upsetting the database. With a network-optimized database, you just make your changes on the server copy, then go to each workstation, start A5 and choose File, Refresh Shadow. In seconds it's ready to use.
