>Maybe he's expecting a little kickback? A little graft under the table? They say that's SOP out there.<

Wong prez, Dennis. That's Indonesia. Singapore is quite a bit different. Remember, this is a country that has banned chewing gum because people were throwing it on the pavement and getting the city all messed up. You can also get fined for not flushing! Squeaky clean and tight-assed are a better characterization than crooked. I remember reading about a minister who was prosecuted for corruption many years back (for a mere S$500K, I think), and although the man eventually died, the government was not content and went after the family fortune instead.

This is simply pathetic. I look for continued weakness until the government finally gives CREAF the o.k. What a shame, today could have been great but instead they have lost all momentum. Instead of keeping the stock moving forward, the buy back will end up being purely defensive.

"It is Creative's current intent to immediately commence repurchasing shares after the November shareholders meeting, assuming the relevant legislation will be passed by then."

What a lousy assumption.

This whole buy back issue continues to be a fiasco and the Singapore government has once again shown how incompetent they are at executing policies even after they have passed parliament. Unbelievable.

No graft here. Just approp. time
Agree with Winston on the squeaky clean image of Singapore.
Graft in politics ? I think it happens in many countries ... Asia does not have a monopoly on greed which is IMHO human nature ... but Singapore is ranked I think in the top 3 [PERC], definitely above the US and many other developed nations where politician's ethics is concerned.

Denis, thanks for ur rather blunt white wash on Singapore, but were u contemplating putting together a "bribe" ?
1. U & I do not have enough money to even pay the Singapore Pres' salary [sorry.. maybe u r already a millionaire, in which case tt'll just about do]
2. you'll probably be put into jail on just the bribe suggestion

A small piece of advice. The constitution in Singapore is rather tight about stuff about the President... so I won't suggest anything on him while in Singapore.

Cheers.
