RE: Miltonian Stanzas on the World-Wide Web

The web is its own place and in itself
Can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.

High on a throne of Air Force One, which far
Outshone the wings of Myrvold or of Ellison,
Or where the gorgeous East with richest hand
Showers on the Sultan of Brunei barbaric pearl and gold,
Clinton exalted sat, by merit rais'd
To that bad eminence.

The unconquerable will, and study of revenge, immortal hate. and courage never to submit or yield.

The strongest, and the fiercest spirit
That fought in heaven, now fiercer by despair.

While Gingrich, Rather than be less,
Cared not to be at all.

While these exalted souls contended over empires,
We petty worhsippers of wealth scrambled in the mire.

Mammon the least erected spirit that fell from heaven; for ev'n in heaven his looks and thoughts
Were always downward bent, admiring more
The riches of heaven's pavement, trodden gold,
Than ought divine or holy else enjoy'd in vision beatific.

We learned that
riches grow in the web of hell: That soil may best
Deserve the precious bane.
