Peter, okay, I guess they can invent solid state storage mechanisms to store Terabytes of 0s and 1s for high definition 3D images and receive it at Gigabytes per second ready for playing back later. Sounds like a good idea to me.

QUALCOMM in the 1980s and early 1990s was busy inventing high definition television and had plans for sending just released movies on demand by wireless transmission on demand. That way film owners could control use of their property and avoid film printing and distribution. That all seems to have gone by the boards unless there is a skunkworks in the basement still working on it. Maybe they are going straight to 3D and Microsoft is in on it.

I'd like to see stereoscopic and stereophonic cameras all over the place so tourists could visit anywhere without having to leave home! No getting mugged in Mexico that way. No kidnapping by Rwanda criminals. Some would argue there would be a loss of reality, but people crowd movie theatres and tv sets without worrying about their detachment from reality. It almost defines their reality for them! Things only come into existence "As seen on tv".

If not a replacement, it would sure be good to take a quick peek around. Now THAT would be a big business opportunity.

[Jozef - thanks for updating me on ethernet and all that weird stuff. ADSL is not doing well here apparently. Charging too much or something. Don't really know. I just want fast and faster. Or, as Valueman would say, I want torque and lots of it. Turbo-powered 3D super mobile wireless at 5 cents per minute. With the inherent cost of cdmaOne networks at 13 kbps around $0.002 per minute now, there is lots of scope for price reductions and technology improvements to make mobile multimedia systems economic for most people. Sooner rather than later. With Airtouch now at 2 cents off peak and 6 cents mixed on and off peak, the trend is clear. Of course Tero would say that won't matter - the wonderful plastic case and form factor of Nokia GSM handsets will win. Fat chance!]
