ORDER FLOW are the orders the brokerage receives from clients. Often times many brokerage firms receive compensation from other firms by letting the other firm fill the clients orders. Often this result in the clients receiving poor fills thereby costing the client an extra 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 or whatever on their order. Add these small diifference together over a period and you can see that it is costing you far more to deal with this firm than one which does not sell order flow.

People tend to be ignorant of this fact and think.."Great I'm only paying 5 bucks commission!". When in fact the are paying $5 + an 1/8, 1/4 on however number of shares that they are buying or selling!

Who sells order flow? Almost all the big discount firms out there which use web browsers to enter orders!
