I really wish I knew how you guys cut and paste from a previous message and italicize it.

The only RISC vendor left is SUN, MIPS is dead, HP is giving up, PowerPC failed and Alpha is being kept on life support by Compaq. If Sun wakes up in time and realizes that it is a software company and not a hardware company then Sun may be a threat to Microsoft. If Sun keeps pushing its own architecture then in my opinion Sun will wind up being the next SGI and will be a much better short than Intel. I fail to see how Merced by itself is a threat to Microsoft.

My point to Patrick was that Intel's future revenues will not come only from the the PC market. They can grow their revenue by owning the workstation and server markets.
