I personally don't feel comfortable with any net that has less than 2 yrs in the training period. There are always exceptions. I've had occasion to train more than a few stocks that had only 1 yrs worth of data, FIXC and NEWZ most recently, with less than accurate results.

I have confidence, Jay, that if there is a way to manage an accurate net on sparse data, you'll find it. I believe that it's easier to ride a horse in the direction it's already going, and prefer to trash an inaccurate net in favor of finding one that IS predictable. The market is full of opportunities, and all I want is a portfolio of 20 nets that are predictable.
