Good question. It looks like they were planning on the stock staying high at least long enough to sell off a ton of it. They will probably try to pass this off as a non-issue or something that the FTC is going to stop. The publishing and media industry is quite diverse and I doubt the fed will stand in the way of the acquisition. Heck, Bezos has planned to become vertically integrated all along and this just beats him to the punch (and puts more real muscle behind it).

The honest thing for ANALS to admit, even Lamie, is that they don't know what will happen in the future with Amazon's profits and that competition is already looking much more fierce. They should concede that the situation has changed and that the stock is now a sell. But that is unlikely - at least until they dump their shares and sell off those from the recent filing.
