white box is a term used for small mom and pop shops who buy components on the spot market and assemble them into systems. they are usually small (5-10 systems a week or less) but some are larger. As a category they are the largest manufacturer of computers.

CPQ's design was begun before intel's, and so cpq is probably 3 to 6 months ahead of intel. But lets not get confused, there is nothing proprietary about the CPQ designs for servers, they have set the standard. Dell also does their own server design, as do HP and IBM. Intel has never been important in server design but they keep trying.

I believe CPQ is doing an AMD design and given that the price is critical in the small business space, the AMD chipset may be important. CPQ also has a number of Celeron designs and they may do a celeron version. I would expect Dell to do their own design for higher end products and use intel's for the 'value' line, much as they do for optiplex and dimension.
