If you look in the extension manager, there should be a short description for each control panel or extension when it is highlighted. If you are using 8.5, check out the System Profiler as you can find out just about anything about your computer.

Unless something is conflicting, I would advise not mucking around in the System Folder...You are not going to save much space or gain much speed, but you'll probably lose a bunch of sleep unnecessarily.

For these reasons, I'd never recommend using one of those "Cleansweep" products either...

Where in the universe can I get complete descriptions on the hundreds of
extentions and control panels that pollute my system software? It's primarily
apple stuff that went in with my last system upgrade. I would like to be able
to decide what I want in there.


You need a little shareware app called InformINIT. I believe the latest version is 8.1, and it can be found at: cafe.ambrosiasw.com
