having never experienced global conditions like now, I really don't know who to believe.

The across the board optimism is what scared me the most. The Feds have been adding liquidity in the past few months. The Japanese and other Asian nations have been quietly printing more money. These are the right moves to reflate the ailing economies. However, nothing seems to be working. Nikkei Net reported huge gap in the supply demand equation in Japan where consumers continue to save rather than spend.

Every major card, such as funding IMF and cutting rates, has been played. What if the global economies still show no sign of recovery, where is the safety net to cushion the next fall?

Changing topics slightly, I am beginning to think the hedge funds need to be regulated, if not outlawed completely. Bailing out the hedge funds was the most immoral of the moral hazards. How can we even remotely suggest to the Japanese to let their bad banks fail now?

Since my crystal ball is about as murky as ever, I think I will set some money on the side line for now.

Stitch and Bernie, please don't talk about Phuket for now. I was supposed to leave for Bangkok this afternoon, followed by a week of kayaking out of Phuket and a week of bicylcing from Changmai to Changrai. My father decided to have get sick, not serious but just bad enough to force cancellation. Hateras is not my style, a Swan 44 would be much more pleasing.
