If there are no shares to borrow, there are allot of shorts already which means a squeeze is waiting to happen. Either the shorts win and the stock drops, or the squeeze happens and there is an extra ordinary pop up as they all cover.

It is often best to wait then buy puts.

This should be required reading by all small investors - particularly those that are wondering why shorting stocks in the current market is akin to peeing into a hurricane.
