Wild Goose beer rated among 10 best in world

After tasting nearly a thousand beers from around the world, a beverage
group has ranked Wild Goose Brewery of Frederick among the best.

The Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago says Wild Goose is among three
U.S. breweries to make the list of its Top 10 of 1998.

The other two were southern Wisconsin companies, Capital Brewing Co. of
Middleton and New Glarus Brewing Co.

Capital Brewing Co. was ranked seventh-best in the world and was the
highest-ranking U.S. brewery in the competition.

Wild Goose Brewery was ranked ninth.

New Glarus Brewing was designated 10th-best in the world. It is the second
time the company has been on the list.

"It means we're consistently producing good beers," New Glarus brewmaster
Daniel Carey said. "It's easy to do something outstanding once, but to do it
day in and day out is difficult."

The Beverage Testing Institute sampled 999 beers from 25 countries to create
its list. The institute's top-ranked brewery was Privatbrauerei Aying of Aying,
Germany.
