Back-up is important if you rely on trading for significant income.
I learned this lesson when I had only one online broker and one computer hooked up to a 28.8 modem/telco line...and the market headed south one day. Now have a dual-channel ISDN line, with dial/voice capability on either line...two regular phone lines, two computers both loaded with RealTick (trading program) and a third computer is available which has a modem connection to a different ISP in case my main internet provider goes down. Also use two different online brokers..one of which just uses the web interface. Plus a good friend has signal...and I would not hesitate to call her if serious need arose. Is it worth it? One good day can pay for the whole set up all year.

David,

It is a good move to have ISP redundancy. Also, check to see which backbone your broker is on. If UUNET, look for an ISP with a DS-3, T3 or whatever to UUNET. It is best if you can get on the same backbone as the broker with whom you are internet-trading.

Best,
