Frank,

This is NOT a personal criticism I stress NOT personal. But, on the misinformed comments from a Cisco employee you immediately assume that Ascend can not provide an IP network and they have no expertise in this field.

I feel compelled to correct this perception. The underlying routing mechanism which computes the best path through an Ascend Frame/ATM network is called Virtual Network Navigator. This is based on the OSPF
IP routing protocol extensively used in todays Internet. (Which incidentally was originally developed by an Ascend Employee, you can buy his book on the subject down you local Barnes & Noble where I got mine)

Using this in-house expertise, ASND developed IP Navigator which gives their BSTDX 9000 CBX500 and GX550 the ability to route IP over the underlying ATM/Frame topology with true QoS. The reason why the likes of StarHub, Bell Atlantic etc buy ASND is heavily related to this. You cannot deliver guaranteed Quality of Service on a router today plus with ASND they throw in a Frame/ATM switch into the Bargain. This is the reason we bought it, because Cisco TAG doesn't work, and hence neither does their QoS strategy.
