The move from Malaysia to the Philippines was a cost saver. They shut down an old, expensive plant that could not hit the yield goals, in favor of consolidating in the PI where costs and yields were better with a largely English speaking employee base. Same reason that Phillips and several other companies have moved out. Seagate's move of DD assy from Thailand to China was about cost saving to.
