Elmer, if Celeron demand is "way up" why is the Celeron/333 less expensive than a K6-2/350? ($121 vs $126 at pricewatch.com) In their November catalogue, "100% Intel Dell" is offering one and only one Celeron-based PC. Exactly where is all this demand coming from?

I wrote this post using a Celeron/333 running at 375MHz (5x75) that runs great. But I think Intel has done such a fine job of telling the world that Mendocinos are inferior to PIIs that people are beginning to believe the lie.

Elmer:

<<Re: "Did you check out the wafer start schedule and notice the drop off?"

Paul, I am hearing rumors to the same effect. Celeron demand is way up and the effect on the sub $1000 market is bad news for AMD.>>

Is this because of the yield crash at gate oxide due to Engel's buddy screwed up? Supply of CeleronA is short these days. I called up my Intel's friend and he said Celeron yield is in the low 70s.

Elmer - Re: " Celeron demand is way up and the effect on the sub $1000 market is bad news for AMD. "

AMD is responding by cutting K6-2 prices and shoving a lot more K6-2's into the distribution channel.

This may temporarily help them maintain their market share, but it will have a BAD EFFECT on their bottom line.

We'll know the truth in January - unless AMD's analyst conference on Thursday morning brings us a "surprise".

I'm sure Cherry Sanders will be waving the FLAG mightily that day.
