All: Siemens / internet in Financial Times

Hi everyone, in the plane on the way back from my holiday I run into an article which you may find of interest (I'll only quote the internet related lines):

----------------------------------------------------------------------
'NEW LEAN SIEMENS MAY STILL NEED TONING UP'
Financial Times (November 6 1998, page 22)

Siemens' decision this week to spin off one-seventh of its vast industrial empire leaves behind a varied portfolio of businesses in mixed states of health.
...
Information and communication is Siemens' biggest division. It was shaken up earlier this year to combine activities such as mobile phones, telecommunication networks and the former Siemens Nixdorf computer business.
Yet, while it has a strong position in the traditional telecoms switching market, it lags behind in state-of-the-art internet based network technologies.
This is where an acquisition will come soon, Mr. von Pierer (group chief executive) promised. He named no names, but gave an indication where a probable target might be located: "The real music is not playing in Europe. It is in the US, in particular Silicon Valley."
Analysts , however, are not ruling out bigger acquisitions later on, with 3Com of the US or Canada's Newbridge Network seen as possible candidates.
...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Just remember the Siemens US Regional Director Rob Grenier mail (September 23, 1998):
It showed there is much more in the FNTN-Siemens relationship than Siemens being just a harware provider.
Siemens spoke out that they see FNTN as a showcase and that we can expect much more from this relationship. (Grenier: 'I view FNTN as an excellent showcase for advanced Multi-Media solutions and expect to further enhance our excellent relationship.')

I'm happy FNTN is a serious business partner to Siemens US and even more happy I'm long and strong in FNTN.

Cheers, Robert
