mike -- << what obsticles remain.>>
A big one. The cost of implementing digital t.v. I think some of
the major cities that offer the 1 mhz capability through current
coax connections may be capable if fox will have the data storage
required in place. 1)Each viewer needs to be able to review his player
of choice or 2) customize his advertisement on demand. The 1st means an ability to transmit millions of bits information, not simultaneously but on demand.
The latter can be done simultaneously with maybe 10 or 15 different
profiles. Are you familiar with the 'custom add concept?' It will be
the cheapest to implement and should be expected 1st. This could happen by the superbowl in my estimation.
Once fiber and digital satellite with internet capabilities are in
place the skys the limit. The CEO of CSCO gave a very optimistic outlook of our interactive future. All over digital t.v. He projects video phone for free as part of the basic service. 1st big hurdle is
the cost of digital t.v. They start at $7500 and only an estimated
200 were sold so far. Next is the cost of data storage at the
transmitting end. Stocks like dd storage and software like orcl will
take off then. I think some speculative buying has already started in the dd sector. Too early for me. I expect a bear market at y2k and after these problems get sorted out, it's go baby go! Wish I knew more
about the roadblocks from the telecasting end.

What obstacles remain? The inability of management on all sides to decide just what to do with this technology. New technology is appearing every day for Interactive TV. If we do not move soon, we will be the old technology that never really got off the ground. We will go by the wayside, as so many of these companies do. Generally they end up being their own worst enemies, being ruled by emotion, pride and vanity. Which is what I believe is happening with the management of ACTV.
