Pretty Reports (SAP) Vs Immediate Pay-back (i2).

Sundar:

I believe your friend might be correct in assuming that SAP is trying to follow i2 in to the SCM arena but as far as I know SAP is couple of years behind i2 in this area and Sanjiv Sidhu the CEO said so himself during the last analysts' (on sept.22nd) meeting,he said SAP is all about rhetoric and not much more in the SCM segment. You may want to go to the i2's web site and listen to it,I think it available for replay.

Here is an interesting comment (I thought) from McNamee in Barrons about the difference between SAP and i2 and I quote (thanks to Truffelette for posting it):-
--------------------------------------------------------

..."Q: Which companies make sense to you here?

McNamee: We especially like I2, the leader in the supply-chain-management category. It's a business with quick payback. At the end of the day if you use I2 software and your competitor doesn't, you win. People will spend $20 million or $30 million on an SAP installation, and all they get is prettier reports about accounting information they already knew. You buy I2 software, and your whole manufacturing line works better....'

PS:
You may want to look in to it further before putting any money down on the company, just to be on the safe side.
Yes I still hold CBSI but did take profit on MAST and a small loss on
UBIX.

However, a very knowledgeable contact in the bay area (he is CEO of a Internet startup)

What kind of internet startup? Enterprise software related?

On the rest of your post, I dont know about a separate division, but I do know that Sap has created a lot of fud with Scope and is giving it away in some cases.

The key to the success of I2 is in its technical leadership over Sap. We know I2 is ahead of Scope, but by how much? I dont think much of Sap in the way of innovation, btw... but then, they have that behomoth architecture to deal with too, so they arent going to be able to move as quickly as the others.
